Botox will only temporarily stop the muscles from contracting in the area where it is injected. Its results, usually, last for 3-4 months. After this time has passed, you will start noticing the movement of the muscles, and your wrinkles and fine lines will become more prominent.
However, with Botox, if you keep getting regular treatments, you might notice that with time your facial muscles will contract less. You won’t need to come after every 3-4 months for reinjections. Sometimes the result may last you for 6 months and even longer than that. You will need to discuss this with the surgeon, though. As each patient is unique, and so are their needs, you’ll need a bespoke treatment plan.
If you’ve had Botox 3-4 months ago, then you can come to the surgeon again for reinjections. To maintain the results from the Botox, you need to keep getting the treatment. There are numerous factors that can affect the longevity of your results.
The number of units/doses of the Botox can determine the duration for which the Botox will last. This does not mean that the surgeon will inject a large number of doses just so that you can have long-lasting results. In some areas of the face, the surgeon has to make sure that a limited dose is used, such as around the mouth and on the forehead. In these areas, you might need a reinjection sooner than 3-4 months.
It is also possible that in your first Botox treatment, the surgeon injects a small dose. This also means that your results won’t last for more than a couple of months. This is done to find out if your body tolerates the injection well or not.
Some patients don’t want to wait until their wrinkles start showing up again. Therefore, they ask their surgeon if they can get the injection before that. This is also possible. So, you don’t have to wait for the results to completely wear off before contacting the surgeon for your next session.
However, if you’re getting Botox for the first time, the surgeon will most likely recommend you to wait until the injection metabolizes in the body. This will allow you to see how well you tolerate the injection and whether it suits you or not. They will also adjust the dose in the next session accordingly.
