Scars make it impossible to get cosmetic surgery discreetly. You cannot hide a rhinoplasty scar.
That depends on if you’re having closed rhinoplasty or open rhinoplasty. In closed rhinoplasty, the surgery is performed through the nostrils. Therefore, closed rhinoplasty does not leave any visible scars. However, not every patient is suitable for this type of surgery. It can help smoothen the bridge of the nose and straighten a crooked nose.
Commonly, open rhinoplasty takes place. Patients who require dramatic changes to the structure and shape of their nose are more suited to this surgical technique. In this surgery, the surgeon makes an incision on the fleshy tissue on the underside of the nose that separates the two nostrils. It is the columella. As the incision is made under the nose, the scar is not that noticeable.
It varies depending on the thickness of your skin. Those who have thinner skin on their nose can expect to heal quickly after the surgery. Their swelling will also decrease relatively quickly. Within one month after the surgery, your scarring will reduce. However, it can take almost 1-2 years for the rhinoplasty scars to completely go away.
After one month of the surgery, you can apply bio-oil on the rhinoplasty scars. It may help reduce the appearance of the scars and hyperpigmentation. Other than that, you should make sure to keep the wound clean as it might develop an infection otherwise. This can prolong the recovery process and darken the scar.
Make sure to keep an eye out for any signs of infection, such as pus, redness, pain, and warmth, etc. For this also make sure that you avoid going to dusty areas for some time after the surgery or into a swimming pool. Give your body a chance to heal properly.
You should also remain careful after the surgery, which means that you should avoid sports or any other strenuous activity. You might get hit on your nose. This can, of course, increase the scarring.
Whenever you step out of the house, you need to wear sunscreen. It’s better if you avoid direct sun exposure during the recovery period. Sun can cause permanent dark scars.
You should also make sure to eat healthy while staying hydrated. Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol as it can prolong the healing time. This means that your scar will take longer to go away.
In addition, you should keep in mind that age is an important factor when it comes to healing. The older you are, the harder it gets for your wounds to heal.
Lastly, we encourage you to stay patient. It might take a year or more for you to see the final result of the surgery, but it is worth the wait.
